Sermon Title: "True Fasting: A Call to Justice, Compassion, and Righteousness" Pastor Nadeen of Jehovah Saints Church, Gojra City, District Toba Tek Singh, Punjab, Pakistan, shares a powerful sermon inspired by Isaiah 58:1-8 , emphasizing the true meaning of fasting and the heart of God's desire for His people. Along with his heartfelt message, Pastor Nadeen also shares pictures of his congregation, a testament to their faith and commitment to serving God. Scripture Focus: Isaiah 58:1-8 This passage challenges us to examine the motives behind our religious practices, calling us to move beyond rituals and into lives marked by justice, compassion, and righteousness. Key Points from the Sermon Cry Aloud and Proclaim the Truth (Isaiah 58:1) God calls His servants to boldly proclaim His truth, exposing sin and guiding His people back to righteousness. "Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression." Reflection: Are we willing to speak the truth with love, even when it's uncomfortable? The Danger of Empty Religious Practices (Isaiah 58:2-5) The Israelites sought God daily, appearing righteous, but their fasting was hollow—marked by selfishness, strife, and oppression. "Is it such a fast that I have chosen? A day for a man to afflict his soul?" Reflection: True fasting is not about outward displays of piety but about inward transformation and aligning our lives with God's will. God’s Chosen Fast: Justice and Compassion (Isaiah 58:6-7) True fasting involves action: Loosing the chains of injustice. Setting the oppressed free. Feeding the hungry. Sheltering the homeless. Clothing the naked. "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free?" Reflection: Are we using our resources and influence to serve those in need and reflect God's love? The Promise of Blessing (Isaiah 58:8) When we live out true fasting, God promises: Our light will shine like the morning. Our health will be restored. Our righteousness will go before us. God’s glory will be our protection. "Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily." Reflection: When we align our hearts and actions with God’s will, His blessings overflow in our lives and communities. Application for Today Pastor Nadeen encourages his congregation and all believers to embrace the heart of true fasting by: Serving the Poor: Actively look for ways to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and shelter the homeless. Fighting Injustice: Speak out against oppression and work to set the oppressed free. Living Righteously: Let your actions reflect God’s love and bring glory to His name. Supporting Scriptures Micah 6:8: "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." James 1:27: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." Matthew 25:35-36: "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me." Closing Message Pastor Nadeen’s sermon reminds us that God desires more than rituals—He calls us to live lives of justice, mercy, and love. Restoration Pastor Victor spoke about God's promise of restoration, highlighting the hope and healing that God offers to His people. The Bible says: “But I will restore you to health and heal your wounds,” declares the Lord, “because you are called an outcast, Zion for whom no one cares.” (Jeremiah 30:17) This verse reminds us that no matter how broken or lost we may feel, God is faithful to restore us. Pastor Victor encouraged the congregation to trust in God’s power to restore their lives, families, and communities. 2. Repentance and Turning to Christ The second part of the sermon focused on the need for repentance and turning to Christ for forgiveness and salvation. The Bible says: “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19) Pastor Victor emphasized that repentance is not just about feeling sorry for our sins; it is about turning away from sin and turning toward God. He urged the congregation to examine their hearts, confess their sins, and commit their lives to Christ. 3. A Call to Action Pastor Victor’s sermon was not just a message of hope but also a call to action. He challenged his congregation to: Seek restoration in their own lives by trusting in God’s promises. Repent and turn to Christ daily, staying faithful in their walk with Him. Share the message of restoration and repentance with others, bringing hope to their families and communities. Let us hold onto these promises: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14) “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18) May we all seek restoration in Christ and turn to Him with repentant hearts, knowing that His grace is sufficient for us. Sunday School Report by Teacher Aman Mushtaq – Jehovah Saints Ministry Teaching the Children to Pray Sunday School Teacher Aman Mushtaq of Jehovah Saints Ministry Pakistan, reports on a meaningful and impactful lesson conducted with the Sunday School children. The focus of the session was on teaching the children how to pray . Many of the children in the class are small and uneducated, and some were unaware that folding their hands in prayer is a way to show reverence and focus when praying to God. After the lesson, the children began praying with folded hands, learning to communicate with God in a simple yet heartfelt manner. Matthew 19:14 – “Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’” The lesson emphasized the importance of teaching children about prayer, helping them grow in their faith at a young age. Practical Support for the Children In addition to teaching about prayer, the children were also provided with: Small Medicines : Basic medical supplies were distributed to ensure the health and well-being of the children. Small Books : Educational and spiritual books were given to the children to encourage learning and spiritual growth. This act of kindness reflects the ministry’s commitment to not only teaching the Word of God but also meeting the practical needs of the children. Proverbs 22:6 – “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” By teaching the children how to pray and providing them with resources, the ministry is laying a strong foundation for their spiritual and personal development. Helping Others as We Were Helped Teacher Aman Mushtaq highlighted an important principle: “Just as people helped us, we helped them.” This reflects the biblical teaching of sharing God’s blessings with others and serving as His hands and feet in the world. Galatians 6:10 – “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.” The ministry’s efforts to teach, care for, and support the children are a testimony to the love of Christ in action. Encouragement for the Ministry The work being done by Teacher Aman Mushtaq and the Sunday School team is a beautiful example of investing in the next generation. By teaching the children how to pray and providing for their needs, they are planting seeds of faith that will bear fruit in the years to come. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 – “These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” The lesson reminds us of the importance of teaching children about God’s love and guiding them to live a life of faith. Closing Prayer Heavenly Father, we thank You for the work being done through Teacher Aman Mushtaq and the Sunday School ministry. Their actions reflect the heart of Christ, who calls us to care for the least among us. Matthew 6:19-21 – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” By prioritizing prayer and care for the sick, homeless, and needy, the congregation is investing in eternal riches that cannot fade. Compassion for the Less Fortunate Jesus taught us that when we care for the least among us, we are ultimately serving Him. Pastor Naveen reminded his congregation of this truth during the prayer session: Matthew 25:35-40 – “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Jesus said, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” When we help others with genuine compassion, we are not only meeting their needs but also honoring Christ Himself. A Call to Action Pastor Naveen’s congregation demonstrates the power of prayer and the importance of showing love to those in need. Their example serves as an encouragement to all believers to: Pray for the Less Fortunate : Lift up the sick, homeless, and needy in prayer, trusting God to meet their needs. 1 Timothy 2:1 – “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.” Serve Others Selflessly : Look for opportunities to help those who are struggling, whether through prayer, acts of kindness, or financial support. Galatians 6:2 – “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” Build Treasures in Heaven : Focus on eternal rewards by living a life of faith, compassion, and obedience to God’s Word. Encouragement for Believers The actions of Pastor Naveen’s congregation remind us of the importance of living out our faith through love and service. When we help others, we reflect the heart of Christ and bring glory to His name. Hebrews 13:16 – “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Proverbs 19:17 – “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.” Let us be encouraged to follow their example, knowing that every act of compassion, no matter how small, is significant in the eyes of God. Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for the faithful ministry of Pastor Naveen Kumar Valluri and the congregation of Jehovah Saints in Samalkot. Bless their efforts as they pray for and serve the sick, homeless, poor, and needy. Lord, may their example inspire others to live lives of compassion and service, building treasures in Heaven. - Report from Evangelist Anjlee Heral – Jehovah Saints Ministry, Pakistan
Report from Evangelist Anjlee Heral – Jehovah Saints Ministry, Pakistan Heartbreaking Conditions of the Poor in Pakistan Evangelist Anjlee Heral of Jehovah Saints Ministry in Pakistan shares a deeply moving report about the dire conditions faced by many families in her area. These families live in extreme poverty and endure unimaginable hardships. Lack of Shelter : These families do not own homes and live in borrowed or temporary shelters. The homes they live in are not habitable and are in a deteriorated condition. Children Forced to Work : Due to poverty, children are unable to attend school and are forced to work alongside their parents to help support their families. This cycle of poverty robs these children of the opportunity for education and a better future. Flooded Homes During Rain : When it rains, water accumulates inside their homes, forcing families to stay awake all night. These conditions are unsafe, unhealthy, and deeply disheartening. Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” These families are in desperate need of hope and relief, and God’s Word reminds us that He is near to those who are suffering. Evangelist Anjlee’s Visit Evangelist Anjlee visited one of these homes and was deeply saddened by what she witnessed. She described the house as unfit for living, a place that could not provide even the basic necessities of safety and comfort. Proverbs 14:31 – “Whoever oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” Her visit is a testament to the ministry’s commitment to showing kindness and compassion to the poor, as God commands His people to do. Prayer Request Evangelist Anjlee asks for fervent prayers for these families. She highlights their struggles and emphasizes the need for divine intervention to bring relief and hope to their lives. Specific Prayer Points: Provision of Shelter : That God will provide safe and secure homes for these families. Isaiah 32:18 – “My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest.” Education for Children : That resources will be made available so the children can attend school and break the cycle of poverty. Proverbs 22:6 – “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Relief from Hardship : That God will ease their burdens, provide for their needs, and give them hope. Matthew 11:28 – “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Call to Action While prayer is powerful, it is also important to act in faith to help those in need. James 2:15-16 – “Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?” Here are some ways to help: Pray : Commit to praying for these families and for Evangelist Anjlee’s ministry. Support Financially : Consider contributing to provide resources for housing, education, and basic necessities. Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” Galatians 6:2 – “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” As a body of believers, we are called to stand with those who are suffering and be a source of hope and encouragement. Closing Prayer: Heavenly Father, we lift up the families in Pakistan who are living in poverty and struggling to survive. Lord, we ask for Your provision and protection over them.
