The Parable of the Valley of Dry Wellsprings

In the days when the kingdoms of Israel sought after their own counsel, a small village sat in the shadow of Mount Ephraim. The villagers worked tirelessly, yet their crops withered and their wells ran dry. They labored from dawn until dusk, relying entirely on their own strength, but the soil yielded only dust.
Among them was a young man named Caleb. Frustrated by the famine, Caleb climbed the mountain to seek the Lord. He knelt upon the rock and prayed, remembered the words written by the prophet:
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." — Proverbs 3:5–6
As Caleb prayed, a soft voice echoed in the stillness, prompting him to walk to the eastern edge of the dry valley, a place the villagers had long abandoned as useless. Caleb obeyed, taking a single wooden spade.
The villagers mocked him as he began to dig in the parched earth. Hours passed, and his hands bled, yet he held fast to the promise of the God of Israel, remembering the assurance given through Isaiah:
"The poor and needy seek water, and there is none, and their tongue is parched with thirst; I the Lord will answer them; I the God of Israel will not forsake them. I will open rivers on the bare heights, and fountains in the midst of the valleys." — Isaiah 41:17–18
At twilight, the spade struck wet clay. Suddenly, cool water burst forth from the ground, filling the trench and streaming into the thirsty valley. The villagers rushed to the stream, shouting in awe. Caleb turned to the people and declared, "It was not my labor that brought the water, but the faithfulness of Jehovah, who restores those who seek Him."
