Singlehood is not a waiting room; it is a platform for profound purpose, devotion, and impact. Throughout Scripture, God has used unmarried women to reshape history, deliver prophecies, and build His Kingdom.

Here is a look at how these women honored God, walked in power, and paved the way for generations to come.

1. Anna the Prophetess: Lifelong Devotion & Unshakable Faith

Luke 2:36–38 (NKJV):"Now there was one, Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was of a great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity; and this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. And coming in that instant she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of Him to all those who looked for redemption in Jerusalem."

The Context & Explanation: Anna experienced deep loss early in life, being widowed after just seven years of marriage. Rather than letting bitterness or isolation consume her, she anchored her devotion in the presence of God. For decades as a single widow, her life was defined by prayer, fasting, and spiritual alertness. Because of her dedication, God granted her the incredible honor of recognizing the infant Messiah when He was brought to the temple, making her one of the very first evangelists to proclaim Jesus to the world.

Numbers 27:1–7 (NKJV):"Then came the daughters of Zelophehad... Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. And they stood before Moses, before Eleazar the priest, and before the leaders and all the congregation... saying: 'Why should the name of our father be removed from among his family because he had no son? Give us a possession among our father’s brothers.' So Moses brought their cause before the Lord. And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 'The daughters of Zelophehad speak what is right; you shall surely give them a possession of a inheritance among their father’s brothers...'"

The Context & Explanation: In ancient Israel, land inheritance was passed down exclusively through sons. When Zelophehad died leaving only five unmarried daughters, these women faced losing their family's legal standing and financial future. Demonstrating immense courage, wisdom, and faith, Mahlah, Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah stood up before the entire leadership of Israel. God affirmed their request, declaring that they spoke what was right, and permanently changed Israel's laws of inheritance.
