What does Jehovah mean?

At the base of Mount Horeb, Moses stood before a bush enveloped in flames that refused to burn away. Curiosity drew him closer, but a divine voice called out from the fire: "Do not come any closer. Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground" (Exodus 3:5).

God declared His intention to deliver the Israelites from their suffering in Egypt. Sensing the weight of this mission, Moses asked how he should respond when the people asked for the name of the God who sent him. God replied to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM" (Exodus 3:14), revealing the covenant name: YHWH, commonly rendered in English as Jehovah.

The name Jehovah comes from the Hebrew verb havah (meaning "to become"). When God revealed Himself as Jehovah, He was declaring Himself as the eternal, self-existent One who actively becomes whatever His people need Him to be—a Deliverer in times of oppression, a Provider in the wilderness, and a faithful Keeper of promises. God emphasized this enduring identity to Moses:

"This is my name forever, the name you shall call me from generation to generation." — Exodus 3:15

Later, in Exodus 6:2–3, Jehovah elaborated on this revelation: "I am the LORD [Jehovah]. I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the LORD [Jehovah] I did not make myself fully known to them." While the patriarchs knew God’s power, the Exodus generation would experience the full depth of His name as He fulfilled His ancient promises through active redemption.

Jehovah Saints Ministry

This sacred identity—a God who actively manifests His presence through compassion and action—drives the mission of Jehovah Saints Ministry. Drawing inspiration from the biblical character of God, the ministry focuses heavily on living out faith through direct community impact. Grounded in passages like James 2:17 ("faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead") and Matthew 25:35–40, Jehovah Saints Ministry dedicates its efforts to providing international relief, establishing shelters for the unhoused, and serving vulnerable populations to reflect the loving, living nature of Jehovah in the modern world.

John 14:6 (KJV)

Jesus saith unto him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (Jesus)."

📜 The Prayer

“I pray for Jehovah to speak through me all the time,

and I pray for Jehovah to remove all my thoughts

and give me your thoughts all the time,

as I do not even want my thoughts.”

In Jesus Name I pray amen!
